Léon van der Hoeven

Léon van der Hoeven (1964) has been working as a professional genealogist and historian since 1990. His fascination with history and genealogy began at an early age, and in 1980 he took his first steps in archival research. Since then, he has specialized in uncovering and making accessible forgotten or previously unused sources, such as historical burial records.

In addition to genealogy, his historical research focuses on rural education in South Holland during the early modern period (1572–1812). He also has a strong interest in themes such as emigration, mobility, and poor relief in the same era.

Some old wisdom

“He who understands the craft well, by which he must make a living, and who does not merely do it, but does it well and willingly, experiences the greatest happiness that anyone can desire.”
